Ed Carden
By: James Carroll
In 1978, when I contracted with the Carden boys to insulate my attic, Ed was one of the workers. If I remember right "Fats" was there also. They parked the truck out in the driveway close to the street. I was out by the truck talking to them, and one of them mentioned the gap between my drainage pipe and my neighbors. It left a big hole there that you could easily get stuck in, especially in a truck the size of their truck.
I agreed with them that it could be dangerous. Ed ask me to let him fix it for me; he knew where a piece of pipe was that would just fit. He said the pipe had a piece missing off the end, but he could easily fix that. We agreed on a price, which was very reasonable.
After they finished doing the insulation job, they took off. It wasn't very long before they came back, and sure enough the pipe had a chip out of it, and sure enough it was almost a perfect fit, length wise. They went about mixing concrete and digging the ditch out to fit the pipe in. It wasn't long before they had the pipe installed and ready to go.
Now those boys were happy because they made some extra money, and I was happy because I got the job done at a reasonable price and no hassle. I am still happy with the job to this day.
